Second Sunday after Epiphany

Martin Luther King Jr. Sunday

January 15, 2006

St. John’s United Church of Christ

Rev. Kyle Lovett “Choices, Choices!  A Warm Fuzzy Tale”

One of the legacies of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is the awareness that each individual has the obligation to choose – when and where to get involved, when to speak up and when to stand in silence.

Life is full of choices.  Make one!

At the King Center in Atlanta, a clergy colleague, Rev. Kathryn Schreiber, came across the attached prayer written by MLK, and in a display area geared to children were pledge cards.  On this MLK Weekend, consider taking the Pledge:

Make Dr. King's dream come true!

I pledge to honor Martin Luther King, Jr's life and nonviolent work by helping to make this world a better, more just place for all ages.

 I will:

o Respect all people

o Live a life of loving, not hating

o Choose patience over anger, non-violence over force

o Actively help to promote freedom, justice, and world peace

During the sermon time, we read “A Warm Fuzzy Tale,” which can be found online at Claude Steiner's Emotional Literacy Home Page. <http://www.emotional-literacy.com/fuzzy.htm>
