Weddings and commitment ceremonies are an important part of our community
ministry. We do not require that you be
a member of St. John's for your ceremony to be here. St. John's is part of the United Church
of Christ
and therefore part of the free-church tradition. There is
no particular form for a wedding or commitment ceremony
that we are obliged to use. The UCC Book of Worship has forms for
weddings, with traditional or more contemporary
options. And we welcome a couple participating
creatively in the shaping of the ceremony.
Our minister, Rev. Kyle Lovett,
is
available to conduct your ceremony and to work with you in preparing for it.
She is
also equipped to do premarital counseling and would expect to have three
counseling sessions with you.
If you wish, you may discuss the use of a different minister with Rev. Lovett.
We are an "Open and Affirming"
church amenable to couples coming
from different
religious backgrounds.
We also welcome marriages and holy union
ceremonies
of same gender couples.

For non-members there is a fee of
$1150 for two-and-a-half hours on the day of the wedding and one hour rehearsal
in the sanctuary, and the church's wedding host. In addition to the base fee,
there are additional options based on what services you want for your wedding.
- $200 for the use of the Assembly Hall and Kitchen for your
reception.
- $600 for the Pastor to perform the ceremony. This also includes 3 pre-meetings
with the Pastor.
- $500 for the Church's Organist/Pianist to play at the wedding. For him to
attend the rehearsal is extra.
A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required to reserve your wedding date
and counts towards the base fee of the wedding. All
fees are due 2 weeks prior to the wedding.
These honoraria and fees represent what we believe to be reasonable
compensation for the services provided. However, we do not want to exclude
any persons from the beauty and meaning of a wedding in our church. Should
these honoraria or fees present significant financial hardship, the couple
should discuss this with the minister and adjustments may be made.
