Weddings

Weddings and commitment ceremonies are an important part of our community ministry.  We do not require that you be a member of St. John's for your ceremony to be here. St. John's is part of the United Church of Christ
and therefore part of the free-church tradition.  There is no particular form for a wedding or commitment ceremony that we are obliged to use.  The UCC Book of Worship has forms for weddings, with traditional or more contemporary options.  And we welcome couples participating creatively in the shaping of the ceremony.

Our minister, Rev. Dr. Sandra Hulse,
is available to conduct your ceremony and to work with you in preparing for it.  She is also qualified to do premarital counseling and is available to meet with you.

If you wish, you may discuss the use of a different minister with Rev. Dr. Hulse.  We are an "Open and Affirming" church amenable to couples coming from different religious backgrounds.   We also welcome marriages and holy union ceremonies of same gender couples.

FeesFor members of St. John's there is no charge for the use of church facilities.

For non-members there is a fee of $500 for the sanctuary, for four hours on the day of the wedding and a one hour rehearsal. A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required to reserve your wedding date and counts towards the base fee of the wedding. All fees are due 2 weeks prior to the wedding. In addition to the base fee, there are additional options based on what services you want for your wedding.

- $200 for the use of the Assembly Hall and Kitchen, plus a $250 deposit to ensure proper clean up ($175 is refundable if all is left in order), for your reception.
- The Minister's fee will be discussed when you meet with her.
- $200 for the Church's Organist/Pianist to play at the wedding and for her to attend the rehearsal.

These honoraria and fees represent what we believe to be reasonable compensation for the services provided.  However, we do not want to exclude any persons from the beauty and meaning of a wedding in our church.  Should these honoraria or fees present significant financial hardship, the couple should discuss this with the minister and adjustments may be made.
